WE NOW know that the leave campaign engaged in illegal activities and smeared so many lies about migration and money that they are likely to be investigated by the police. How come no party is promising to fund their campaign promises with the £350 million a week that the leave campaign promised us?

Brexit is the only real issue this election, and all this talk of social care and the NHS is just so much froth and flummery. The point is that Britain will get the same deal with the EU no matter what the leader’s majority is in parliament. It is simple. We will be lucky to get as good a trade deal with the EU as we have as a member, and this will mean trading on the same terms and conditions that we have now. Or, as is likely with a prime minster who promises to be “bloody difficult,” we will have  trading relations on less favourable terms and conditions.

There is no chance that we will get better terms and conditions upon leaving. Now we have some idea what leaving the EU actually means, as opposed to the meaningless “Brexit means Brexit.” It is obvious that another referendum needs to be held, so that this time we can make an informed decision to leave or not. If the leave campaigners are so confident of the “will of the people,” why are they so afraid of a second referendum?

If we go back to the EU and ask for our letter back, all this Brexit business would not all have been in vain. The Brexit hysteria in Britain, will be a powerful force to push for reform of the EU. No one who wants to remain in the EU would say that it is a perfect institution, but it is the only one we have. The reason the leave campaigners don’t want a second referendum is because they know they will lose it.

Here in the Cotswolds only the Liberal Democrats have a chance to win against the entrenched Tory candidate, and only the Lib Dems can save Britain from making a terrible mistake that will limit the life chances of a generation and isolate our country.  It is a minute to midnight, but we can still step away from the precipice by voting for the Liberal Democrats.
