I FELT compelled to write a big ‘thank you’ to the lovely, kind staff of Cirencester Hospital who are in the process of getting me out of a right pickle.
I was visiting a sick friend and simply did not see all the signs asking us to input our car registration number to avoid getting fined for being in the car park.
Two weeks running I parked up to pay my visit and totally missed all the instructions.
I subsequently received a letter (addressed to my husband as the car is in his name) telling me I was to be fined £100 for not complying with the instructions.
I immediately knew that a second fine would ensue for my subsequent hospital visit.
Both times I missed all signs, very stupid of me.
However, I was adamant that I would not pay as I knew that the money would not go to the hospital but to some private company working on behalf of the ‘great and good’.
I was prepared to chain myself to the railings or go on hunger strike in prison if need be but I would not pay the fine.
My suffragette intentions were not called into action however as a lovely manager sorted out the oversight in true NHS style, calmly and gently, with no fuss.
A donation to the Cirencester Hospital League of Friends will be much deserved and I thank them and apologise for causing them such bother.
