NOW that the dust clouds of the Market Place regeneration are starting to settle to reveal a space to embrace and celebrate, would it not be nice to put quick fix measures in place to welcome our local and not so local residents to give Cirencester a try again.

We are all painfully aware of the inadequacies of the infrastructure of parking and that long term and lengthy solutions are now on the cards.

However, these will take some years to even get off the ground, surely a quick and viable interim measure is needed before all this investment from all concerned is wasted.

Why not, we all put pressure on the powers that be, to implement a viable out of town solution for long stay parking (business use) then free up free moving parking in places such as the Waterloo with three to four hour max parking.

This would quickly enable the ‘let’s pop in to town’ statement to come back to everyone’s lips and in turn save the now very weary traders and businesses in town, and at the very least give a much needed moral boost.

We have recently made a move to re-invent ourselves to encourage people to have a real purpose to come back into town and receive a special level of service and see a unique product selection.

We had every reason to say that recent events had cost us simply too much, but we firmly believe that Cirencester’s foundation of history and independence could and should be built on again.

If the powers that be would just make a small interim effort to relieve the infrastructure, then each one and everyone of us could confidently and with pride say to everyone we know, “come and give Cirencester another go, it’s worth it”.

From the outside it somewhat feels that each body of local government says that this is not their department.

Well for once, they all need to work as one and work quickly.
