I REFER to the letter from Michael Goss (Letters, January 26).

He infers that I gave instructions to a team of experts to favour the Waterloo site as the location for a decked parking site.

Nothing is further from the truth.

The Cirencester Parking Demand Project, which I chair, engaged independent consultants to come up with a range of options to provide greater car parking capacity in the town and they recommended the Waterloo site as the most deliverable scheme.

Furthermore, I would remind Mr Goss that the Waterloo car park has been earmarked for decked car parking for nearly 20 years and was included in the district’s previous local plan 2001–2011.

I can assure Mr Goss that the Parking Demand Board will carry out detailed discussions with residents and businesses to understand concerns and work out ways of mitigating them.

It is very early days but I hope we can rely on the input of Mr Goss, and the views of others, to help us obtain the most sympathetic solutions.

Chair of Cirencester Parking Demand Project
