IN RYAN Merrifield’s article on January 19, ‘Superb new office for website’s staff ’, he refers to the former Cecily Hill barracks.
When I was young I was told the barracks were built in 1857, at the time of the Crimean War.
Residents wanted it to look attractive, hence its picturesque appearance.
During the Second World War, wounded men were cared for there, having been transported by train from Watermoor railway station to Cirencester station.
Cirencester station is still standing as a Grade II Listed building whereas Watermoor has gone.
