THE Christmas period was a busy one for the Cirencester Corps of the Salvation Army.

The band was able to fulfil a busy schedule playing carols in Cirencester and surrounding towns and villages.

This was in addition to taking part in the Christmas lights ceremonies in Cirencester and Fairford and also carolling with ‘Churches Together in Cirencester’ in Cirencester Market Place.

They also visited a number of residential homes in the town, the hospital and played around their traditional streets on Christmas Eve and for the switching on of Vale Road Christmas lights.

As well as a very positive response from the listeners, the financial response was very generous, especially when considering the financial conditions of the day.

On December 3, in Tetbury, the Band raised £405.16 and in Cirencester Market Place on December 10, £871.89.

Donations from other events also raised significant sums and we are aware that many individuals in the district supported The Salvation Army’s national television Christmas appeal.

In addition to the support for the band’s activities, the corps is very grateful for all the support given by members of other churches, schools, and a wide cross section of the public, to the local appeal for toys and food parcels to be distributed at Christmas.

Thanks to our volunteer helpers, a very large number of parcels were distributed, a testament to the generosity of the public and a reminder of the need within our, so-called, affluent district.

Such generous support is really appreciated by the Salvation Army, both locally and nationally, thank you all very much.
