MY SYMPATHY to the Light family for their recent loss and my congratulations to John Light for the excellent obituary concerning his late brother, published by your newspaper.

Mr Light may indeed be flattered by the scope of his readership but rather than address the issue at hand, (cameras affecting form), he chooses to mock the geographical home of his respondent.

This may amuse the Corinium faithful but cheap shots will do little to raise the reputation of that corner of the rural west midlands and even less to grow the Standard’s circulation in Stockport.

So come on Mr Light, less lazy popularism please and more of the incisive wit and perception your paper deserves.

We know you have it in you.
