SADLY, the injury to the small boy in Cricklade Street reported on your front page was entirely foreseeable.
Those responsible for the Market Place changes seem unable to grasp that stopping traffic going one way will mean that it will go another way.

It was inevitable that the closure of Castle Street to west-bound traffic would lead to more traffic using Cricklade Street.

Now that it has been publicised that it is not currently illegal it will get worse.

When using Cricklade Street is made illegal and scarce resources are deployed to police it, yet more traffic will use the London Road/Lewis Lane/Querns Lane west-bound route.

This will result in more frequent and bigger traffic jams taking place at the London Road roundabout.

No doubt steps will be taken to deal with this which will result in more domestic traffic being forced to mix with through traffic at the already dangerous Kings Meadow roundabout.

All this could be easily remedied by reversing the flow in Castle Street or, better still, restoring it to two-way traffic.

The thousands of voters who live on the north side of Cirencester would appreciate it if those we vote for would stop referring to us as ‘rats’ as in ‘rat run’.
