IT’S GETTING lighter every day!

One of the things I love about January is the noticeable lengthening of daylight, not noticeable day to day, but certainly week on week.

Our planet is speeding on its orbit around the sun and here in Cirencester, the sunset will be 46 minutes later on January 31 than it was on the first of the month and we can look forward to longer and lighter evenings until June 21.

Because the mornings are also getting lighter, the overall daylight length will be 77 minutes longer at the end of the month than it was at the beginning – it just gets better all the time.

It is amazing the information you can find on the internet.

I am one of 24 Cirencester Street Pastors who take it in turns to walk the central area of Cirencester in teams of four over a Saturday night to Sunday morning and always at night.

Even in mid-summer we start our duty just before it is fully dark and we finish just as it is getting light, but for the core of our duty it is fully dark.

We do not volunteer to do what we do in listening, caring and helping during the night time economy because we like the dark or cannot sleep but because we know Jesus, who is the light of the world.

Jesus said of himself: “I am the light of the world.

“Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness but will have the light of life” (John 8:12).

As Street Pastors we want to bring His light to those we meet.

May the light of Jesus be lengthening in our lives not just for a season or two, but always.
