THE newly rejuvenated Cirencester Market Place will not bring in hundreds of shoppers.

A very wide paved area is an advantage for the great traditional markets, but it will not encourage footfall into many of the independent shops in the town centre.

That new huge pedestrianised square needs to have a strong feature which attracts people who in turn walk into our shops.

As it is, with the confused road system and our lack of short term parking in the actual Market Place itself, hoping Sunday opening will solve this is not enough.

That said, I was delighted to read that Mayor Mark Harris is ‘inviting the Chamber of Commerce to get involved’.
