THIS week I was one of many HSBC customers in the Malmesbury area who found a letter on the mat saying our local High Street branch will soon be closing its doors for good.
Am I the only one to greet this sad news with surprise, disbelief and anger?
Not all folk drive cars but we will now have to travel to say Cirencester for our transactions, with all the complexities of finding somewhere to park.
Furthermore, the town has recently lost the Gentleman’s Outfitters, a wine bar and then next the cash point will go to leave another void on the High Street.
And just after the bank has had an expensive facelift that must have cost thousands of pounds of investors’ money.
Will there be something to go into the handsome building?
Please, not another funeral director’s office, we do not need another reminder of death on the High Street.
