SADLY I must agree with the fears of so many pedestrians in Cirencester.

The council will have to agree that the lowered pavement idea in Market Place, while attractive, is not safe.

The fact they are being laid with ‘care’ isn’t going to prevent many more accidents.

Also, the near abolishing of vehicular access is and will destroy the heart of this market town.

If you speak to local shop assistants you will become aware of their genuine fears.

Recently I was in our House of Fraser and one of the staff there said she could not understand why the council and local adviser of the scheme decided to take away the parking outside the store.

Apparently much of their genuine business comes from older people who used to park and be able to go easily into the banks and other shops.

The pop-in customer will now go elsewhere.

The council and surveyors of the scheme need to allay the fears of the owners and employees of the market businesses.
