HAVING narrowly avoided being run down in Cricklade Street at 3.15pm on Saturday while the pedestrian zone is in effect until 4.30pm, I am wondering if what Cirencester’s arrogant drivers need to feel is a bit of pedestrian power to get them to follow the law?
Clearly, the town council has given up any pretence at controlling cars within the town while the Market Place “improvements” are being undertaken and the CDC has withdrawn their parking enforcement staff – so maybe we, the people, should take back control?
Perhaps, we could even have a ‘day of action’ to physically prevent drivers from flouting the law?
Professor Peter Jacob’s recent letter contained some good ideas for re-organising parking but I am just focused on keeping more of us pedestrians alive within our own streets.
