Your pages have recently given space to the arguments for and against a rail link to Kemble, with much stress on the potential benefits but, equally, warnings of huge costs (Standard, July 28 and August 4).

Meanwhile, as some may have noticed, the CDC Local Plan (Draft Reg 19) has been available for comment, that is it was until midnight on Monday, August 8.

I would like to draw your readers’ attention in the Plan to Appendix B, the Vision for the Chesterton Strategic Site (for the 2,350 houses).

Paragraph B.23 sets out quite clearly and boldly that the “network of footpaths and cycleways will help connect the development to destinations beyond the site boundaries (e.g., the town centre, Kemble station and the Cotswold Water Park).

The network will be less permeable for private cars, making walking and cycling more attractive options for local trips.”

There is no mention of any light rail link but the planners have clearly taken on board the very sensible and much less costly idea of a cycle link with Kemble station, presumably using the disused railway track.

You quoted Andrew Tubb, CE of the town council, last week (Standard August 4) as regarding Lord Bathurst’s so-called legacy as being deficient in many respects.

Surely a Bathurst Cycleway could be one way to ensure a lasting legacy?
