I AM writing to let you know that another couple of people have been let down by the 51 evening bus service from Cheltenham to Cirencester.

According to your article in the Standard (July 7), Stagecoach have not had many complaints.

I complained by phone to the company and was told that they would reply, but as yet I am still waiting.

My husband John and I booked an event at the Cheltenham Science Festival on Tuesday, June 7, which ended at 7.30pm, sure that there was a bus home at 8.10pm.

In fact, the last bus now leaves Cheltenham at 7.10pm.

My husband got a so-called new timetable from the Cirencester Tourist Information Centre in early June, showing that there was an 8.10pm bus and a 10.10pm bus returning to Cirencester.

You can imagine how we felt when the bus didn’t arrive.

We were stranded in Cheltenham, so we had to pay £50 to go home in a taxi.

Subsequently we found out that there had been a change to the timetable  on May 1, cutting the 8.10pm and 10.10pm buses on the 51 route, but no up-to-date timetables had been sent to either the Tourist Information Centre or the Town Council office in Cirencester in June, let alone May.

If the new timetables had been delivered before May we wouldn’t have booked the event in Cheltenham and wouldn’t have been out of pocket by £50 after being stranded.

We are still waiting for an answer and an apology from Stagecoach.
