DAVID Cameron promised that his government would be the greenest ever, but failed to deliver.

Theresa May has made no such commitment.

On the contrary, she has got off to a poor start by axing the very department that deals with climate change and passed on this responsibility to the business department.

Many of the laws protecting our beautiful countryside and wildlife derive from European law.

Now, as the UK continues down the road to Brexit, we have to ensure that environmental protection is not lost among the 100s of other issues that people are anxious about.

In the coming months we must continue to demand that the new Government comes clean to make sure that environmental protection and a sustainable green economy takes centre stage.
