I AM writing in response to the comments Fairford mayor Jennie Sanford gave to the Standard following the recent flooding in Fairford.

She didn’t visit my neighbours in Horcott Road who were the first to call out the fire brigade, but more importantly her statement saying that Friday’s rain was not an everyday occurrence does not get round the fact that every time it rains Horcott Road floods.

I am writing this as it rains and watching the puddle grow outside my house.

Every car that comes past sends water over our houses.

The house opposite has water thrown as high as their first floor windows, my neighbour has it hit their door and it goes through their letter box.

We are lucky that we are protected by a porch but it still hits our windows.

We had a visit from Glos Highways to discuss the problem and his answer was to consider the feasibility over another storm drain outside our houses.

He refused our request to raise the drop down kerb outside our houses as he didn’t want standing water in the road which is there every time it rains anyway.

And to add insult he said if you do buy a house in a dip what do you expect, forgetting our houses were here long before the road.

I dread to think what will happen to us if permission is granted for the Horcott development.

A concerned Horcott resident.
