I HATE waiting for buses.
If one hasn’t arrived within a couple of minutes, I start walking on to the next bus stop.

Then a bus arrives before I’ve reached the next stop, and I’m left stranded.

I should have simply waited at the first stop.

We are bad at waiting.

We are impatient.

Whether we are waiting for news, for money, for success, or for a plumber to arrive –- we don’t like waiting.

We fidget, we get annoyed or we try to somehow speed things up.

Impatience doesn’t make things happen more quickly, it just means we don’t enjoy the wait.

In the multi -million selling book ‘The Road Less Travelled’ , the author Scott Peck defines maturity as the ability to “delay gratification” –- that is, to wait for the good stuff.

Children want stuff right now, those who are mature are happy to wait.

God has built waiting into our world; it’s how the system works.

God is looking for those who are prepared to wait, and to wait for him.

“Since ancient times no one has heard, no ear has perceived, no eye has seen any God besides you, who acts on behalf of those who wait for him.” (Isaiah 64:4 The Bible)

So, if you are waiting for something or someone –- don’t be anxious, but learn to dance and laugh whilste in the queue.
