A RECENT improvement to the centre of Cirencester has been the introduction of attractive planters, but as a result of the Market Place regeneration many of the them have been moved elsewhere.

Catalpa Square has been enhanced by the addition of four attractive displays, near the north porch of the Parish Church are sited more planters full of spring flowers.

Walk into the Abbey grounds and one passes a flower bed with a profusion of hyacinths, hellebores etc.

Further in to the grounds there are more colourful tubs.

All these and more are there for our pleasure.

How very sad therefore it was to hear that some of these tubs are vandalised and sometimes plants stolen.

Raising funds to buy plants, filling the tubs and flower beds with plants and maintaining them is a service provided by a group of volunteers who I can only imagine are appalled by the totally thoughtless acts of a few.

We just hope that the volunteers don't feel their efforts are wasted and realise that the majority of Cirencester residents and visitors appreciate and enjoy their hard work.
