THE latest letter from Cllr Hancock (February) does not tell us much that we had not been told before about Cotswold District Council’s (CDC) stance on the parking problems in Cirencester.

It would be interesting to know when the feasibility studies of suitable parking sites will be completed and when we will learn the outcome.

Meanwhile, we must live with the problem. As Cllr Hancock says, there are peak times when finding a space is particularly difficult and my experience shows that parking is much easier between 9am and 10am.

As to businesses ‘dying’ for lack of parking, the number of spaces provided by CDC is the same as it was ten years ago.

What has changed is that the number of businesses has grown (developments in the Corn Hall and former post office sites, for example) and the population has increased.

Hence the relative lack of available space. However, there are plenty of thriving businesses in the town and I suggest that the owners of those which are said to be dying should consider carefully whether they are offering goods that people want to buy at prices they want to pay.

As my father-in-law used to say “build a better mousetrap and the world will beat a path to your door.”
