ON SUNDAY, December 20 I had a problem with my eye and needed to go to Cirencester Hospital. A neighbour kindly took me to the A&E but as she had another appointment she was unable to stay with me.

After I had been seen by the nursing staff who went to a great deal of trouble for me and were kindness itself, the girl on reception rang to get me a taxi.

In fact, she rang about 20 taxi places with no success.

She then let me use her phone to try and contact one of my neighbours. Unfortunately, the ones I had the phone numbers for were out.

Then a young woman came in for treatment and she said that if I waited until she had been seen to, she would run me home.

The staff said they would keep her place open in the queue of people and she could take me straight away. Unfortunately, I did not ask her name.

We were about to get into her car when one of the neighbours I had tried to contact got the message I had left on his phone and turned up to fetch me.

I would like to give thanks to everyone who helped me and say God bless you for all your kindness.

And thank goodness we have such a wonderful hospital in our midst, with staff who really care for their patients.
