What Christmas is About
CHRISTMAS is a happy time, a time for having fun
To celebrate the coming, of Jesus Christ, God’s son.
With gifts and merry music and Christmas lights aglow
Amid a winter wonderland of ice and frost and snow
A time to forget your troubles, play games and watch TV
The 20-year-old repeats, of something Christmassy.
There’s turkey and plum pudding and mince pies by the score
And mistletoe and Christmas trees and holly round the door.
But come the Christmas killjoys singing carols like a dirge.
You know who I’m on about, you’ll find them round the church.
They aren’t the sally army with happy clappy tunes
But just a bunch of moaners, preaching that all is gloom.
I’ll tell you what you moaners, some of us have had enough
We want some cheer at Christmas, because this year’s been rough.
There’s people short of money and some who are depressed
Who want to tell the moaners “Shut up, give it a rest.”
We want to chill at Christmas, a few drinks with our mates
A plate or two of mince pies, oranges nuts and dates
Turkey with all the trimmings we’ll eat on Christmas Day
And then we’ll watch the telly while the missus clears away.
So celebrate the coming of our saviour Jesus Christ.
With joyous Christmas parties lasting late into the night
Sing those Christmas carols in the pub or in you house
Enjoy yourself at Christmas, it’s what Christmas is about.
