YOUR correspondent Sara Radway (October 8) inquires about the date of the switch of noun “which” to “who”
in the Lord’s Prayer. This can, I think, be traced, in the Church of England at least, to liturgical reforms begun in the 1980s and resulting in “Common Worship”.
Both must be used if we are to try to speak of the fullness of God. “Which” speaks of God’s transcendent otherness above and beyond all created things, whereas “who” denotes God’s imminence too us in love – no matter what.
