IN response to ‘An O reminder. Thursday, July 2, 2015

‘Wriggle wriggle’ is my response to Cllr Chris Hancock’s letter (An O reminder) addressing car parking fines in Cirencester, especially in regard to her last sentence, ‘We do try to accommodate innocent mistakes’.

When my valid parking ticket fell off my dashboard and landed on the floor of my car (strong winds that day as confirmed by Cirencester Agricultural College as was), visible side up (enforcement officers taking numerous photos of my car from every angle but strangely not one of the parking ticket), and I was given a fixed penalty notice, nobody wanted to accommodate my innocent mistake then.

Nor would they even after I’d filled in numerous explanatory forms over and over, because I wouldn’t give in and pay up.

Instead I was taken in front of the Parking Ombudsman at civil court where two 2 youngsters (sorry young ladies, wet behind the ears) pleaded Cotswold Council’s case, hilariously starting with the comment that I was ‘probably a very nice person’... This being wholly irrelevant, suffice it to say the case was dealt with pretty fast, with comments of ‘waste of time’.

Did the Council leave it at that? No, they informed me they had decided to take no action, this time. How gracious.
