IN RESPONSE to Elizabeth Hindley’s letter in the June 18 edition of the Standard (“Gracious offer from council”), may I make two points.
First, customers sometimes transpose “0” and “o” when entering their registrations in machines at our car parks, as happened in this case.
When that occurs, the correct registration will not be identified.
Enforcement officers are, however, told to be aware of this possible mistake and to check for it. They failed to do that in this instance but have been reminded of the need to undertake this additional check.
For the same reason, upon challenge, the system showed only an expired permit rather than the current one.
Second, the language used by APCOA in confirming cancellation of the ticket, once the mistake had been identified, was wholly inappropriate and they have been told so. We do try to accommodate innocent mistakes.

Cotswold District Council cabinet member for enterprise and partnerships.
