FURTHER to your article about “litter problems” in the Abbey Grounds (page 11, May 28) does anyone know who was responsible for the disgusting mess on the pathway from the Esplanade towards the playground which apparently was made overnight on May 25/26?
It appears to have been an egg throwing contest, with broken glass, vomit, poppers etc added to the mess. Coincidentally the annual Royal Agricultural University May Ball took place that night!
Why do people treat the Abbey Grounds like this?
Thankfully the four tubs on the Esplanade weren’t planted up with summer bedding plants until May 27, so escaped the wanton rampage.
Readers might like to know that all the planting, for the second year running, was done by Phoenix Gardeners (volunteers) and the plants were provided (again free of charge for the second year running) by the Market Garden greengrocers.
The owners of Market Garden, Ian and Paul, aren’t even residents of Cirencester, but are decent enough to support the effort to make the town a more appealing place to live in and visit.
What a shame that not enough people seem to see Cirencester in the same light, and treat it worse than a public convenience.
