IN REPLY to Claire Locke’s letter (April 9) on parking spaces in town. She reported that she had driven round the various car parks in Cirencester. There were spaces available in each, therefore meaning that no further action needs to be taken.
The car parks have spaces because people aren’t coming into Cirencester town now. With everything they need available out of town, with free parking, why should they bother?
Cirencester is dying as a town and unless the council get their act together and provide adequate, reasonably priced parking and promote it, people will go elsewhere.
We have some good independent shops in town whicho are struggling to survive with high business rates and rents, the parking issues could be the final straw for some.
Please look at our lovely town, a gem in the Cotswolds. It needs promoting to attract people back to it, plus a multi-storey car park or adequate, well-signed parking elsewhere in town.
Act now Cotswold District Council, before it’s too late!
