I WAS interested to read Jonathan Davies’ comments on the Market Place transformation (Standard, November 20). I also believe such a large project is unnecessary, with improvements to the paving and street furniture sufficient.
I am also very concerned at the proposal to make the section of Castle Street that is two-way into a one-way street.
At present, coming from the Cheltenham direction, those of us who live in Thomas Street, Cecily Hill, The Mead, etc, can drive down Spitalgate and Gosditch Street before turning right into Castle Street. If this goes ahead we would have to go on to the roundabout and up London Road, which is already busy with traffic, often queuing back from the lights to the roundabout.
SIR EDWARD HORSFALL, Cirencester
