I HAVE once again been prompted to write on the subject addressed by Megan Archer in her article ‘Unease at park’s project proposals’ (Standard, November 13).

The article comments on a proposed sum of money that could be made available by Coln Park to the local parish and town councils. It does not make reference to the fact that the councils will effectively be ‘paid’ to assist in the creation of public access routes across private land for what may only be a temporary period and subject to the will of the relevant land owners — including Coln Park LLP themselves.

When will the powers that be at Lakes by Yoo and Coln Park recognise that the residents of Fairford, Lechlade and Kempsford are not going to be ‘bought off’?

Coln Park know only too well what they can do for the local community. If they want to make a gesture of goodwill they could easily apply for the present ‘country park’ walk to be made a public right of way.

This is a possible way forward and it would be a big step in the right direction as far as the local community is concerned. Perhaps they would like to tell us why they appear to be unwilling to take this step?
