MY AUNT was born in the 1880s. She was called Miss Katie, or teacher Katie as she was affectionately known; she was a pupil, then a teacher, at Powell’s School.
She lived in the school house with her family. My father told me on many occasion that Rebecca Powell could be heard walking up and down in the loft. To reassure her they would say “It’s all right, Rebecca” and the footsteps would fade away.
