WE WERE pleased to read about Powell’s School pupils gathering conkers in Cirencester Park (Standard, October 23).
You may like to know that the children from Powell’s were collecting conkers in the park some 50 years ago when we were teaching there.
My colleague, Mrs Jones, and her class grew young plants in the class room from conkers and eventually planted the sapling trees in the school garden.
One is still there and is now a mature tree.
We saw it on our last visit to the school on the occasion of the tricentenary celebrations last June.
