EARLY last month a Royal Mail sticker appeared on one of our two post boxes in Somerford Keynes – and doubtless on rural boxes throughout the Cotswolds and the rest of the Country – to tell us that “From September 15, 2014 the final collection will be made no earlier than 9am Monday to Friday and no earlier than 7am on Saturday.” Interpreting this as no second collection, people who need a later collection have been scurrying off to post boxes in Cirencester.
Much to my surprise last week I saw the box outside The Old Post Office (we used to have a sub-post office) being emptied at 5pm! The postman said that new information plates had yet to be prepared and in the meantime the second collection at 5pm would continue.
It would be helpful if the head of the postal service in Cirencester would inform readers of the Standard of the current state of play about the postal collection service. Who knows, perhaps new stickers could be stuck to the boxes so we could all learn something about the workings of the Royal Mail.
