I FEEL so strongly regarding the speeds that are now commonplace in my part of Tetbury (Romney Road, Wheat Hill, Elizabeth Gardens, Wisteria Road and Windsor Road) and I wish something could be done about it.

For a start, bring the speeds down to 20mph then a certain few would only travel at 30mph, this, hopefully would include the bearded gentleman whom has great pleasure at travelling at speed from the top of Romney Road down to the Chavenage Lane junction, on his tricycle with a powerful engine installed, at a time when mothers are taking their children to school.

The harrowing thing about this speeding problem is that most of the offenders have their own young children. How would they react if their child was hit?

In this area there are lots of children of all ages out enjoying themselves. They forget that there are vehicles about and wander into the road, be it on foot, skateboard, or their bike. Some innocent child is going to get hurt sooner rather than later unless something is done about it.

It is not only speed, another problem is people using their mobile phones while driving. They get away with it as they know that there will never be a bobby about, you never even see the community police about these days.

So please councillors please try to stop some innocent child getting hurt, see about reducing speeds, put in speed ramps and what about narrowing the roads as they have elsewhere in our county? As for roundabouts, every other community in the county is overwhelmed by them. How many have we got? You can count them on one hand and have fingers left.

Also could someone please explain the reason behind the law that says you are allowed to travel on the London Road out of Tetbury at 40mph but after turning into the narrow country lane to Cherrington, and all similar lanes in the area, you can go at 60mph?

No doubt there is an excuse for you to get out of doing anything about the speeds in Tetbury but I have had my say and sincerely hope none of my fears come true.
