TODAY (August 5), The infrastructure of Cirencester cannot cope with the volume of traffic passing through. There only needs to be a hiccup in the normal routine and the centre of town becomes gridlocked; with the closure of Park Street and Thomas Street, things are made worse.

This morning a van was parked on the corner of Silver Street, outside Lloyds bank; the double deck bus could not get through, this caused a build up of traffic nearly back to St James Place.

Later in the morning I was in a queue of traffic waiting at the traffic lights in the West Market, the lights changed to green and everyone proceeded forward, the majority, including myself, turning into Castle Street, then everything came to a standstill as there was a large van unloading outside Clark’s Shoe Shop and traffic could not get passed.

I was on the half turn into Castle Street and was being foul mouthed by a driver wishing to turn from Castle Street into Cricklade Street because the lights had changed in their favour.

Today is just an ordinary working day. What will happen if the centre of town is revamped together with the extra traffic generated with the building of 2,500 new homes?
