I AM shocked to have just found out that someone was killed in a road traffic accident outside the gates of Lake 32 recently. I knew him and I am a regular sailor there. I’m not a fan of unnecessarily low speed limits but I understand the limit on Spratsgate Lane is 60mph which is actually faster than the much better, wider and straighter Spine Road East.

I personally find it challenging pulling out of the car park at Lake 32 onto Spratsgate Lane as it is on a slight, blind bend with high bushes on either side and not much wider than one car and given the growing amount of traffic, walkers and cyclists in the vicinity not to mention the public beach area at the north end of the lake adding to this with families and children, 60mph seems too fast, besides which the lane is bumpy and one could easily lose control at 60mph (I can’t drive any faster than 50 on the best stretches towards Cirencester) and inevitably a 60mph limit is a license for many to drive at 70mph or more if possible.
