WE WELCOME your report that the Con/LibDem councils have dropped their attempt to introduce parking charges to the streets of Cirencester. For once, they seem to have taken notice of the hundreds of people who signed UKIP’s petition against their proposal.
But residents and visitors should beware that the Cirencester Parking Partner-ship wants “more discussion” on parking. In due course they will come back with some revised charging scheme.
The solution to Cirencester’s parking “problem” is staring them in the face – car park charges are too high and need to be reduced. Only then will visitors opt to use the car parks, which are often under-used, and reduce congestion on the roads.
UKIP will continue to hold to account those in the councils who demonstrate so little understanding of the views of those they purport to represent.
