SINCE the beginning of the year I have been left bitterly disappointed with the rising number of potholes appearing on our roads. Gloucestershire County Council (GCC) recently announced the seamless transition of highway maintenance contractors. Unfortunately, the grim truth of the matter is that this has yet to materialise.

The attitude which GCC, recently displayed by a GCC Councillor at a local parish council meeting, has to residents complaining about potholes shows their lackadaisical and careless approach. There are a number of roads surrounding the South Cerney and Siddington area which are in a serious state of disrepair. Despite the severity of the issues, these potholes are left unattended for a number of weeks.

The lack of proactive action coming from GCC shows that something more must be done in order to keep our roads well maintained and in a safe condition. I would like to see more being committed from GCC and a renewed investment from the county council to the maintenance of our roads and road safety.
