Two thousand more houses for Ciren
That’s what the bureaucrats plan
Down to the south of Chesterton
Where there’s green fields and woodland.
They’re holding a wide consultation
In the meeting hall in Ascroft Road
Second weekend in May they are saying
So I thought that I’d let you all know.
The want peoples views and their comments
About things that matter to them
Should flats be in blocks of a dozen
Or maybe in clusters of Ten.
Should front doors be painted in purple
Or should they be brown or bright green
They can’t be in Red Blue or Yellow
Or polical bias could be seen.
They want your views on roofing colours
And do you want slates or pan tiles
And what about gutters and windows
They want to know your views on styles
They want to ask you about access,
Should they have through roads or not
Because it could become a rat run
When school turns out at three o’clock
Would you prefer Tarmac or Cobbles
Maybe crazy block paving or setts.
To surface the road ways and pavements
So your feet don’t get muddy or wet.
They canvass your views on the details.
The trivial things of no account
But not on the things that concern us
Like where they build and the amount.
For bureaucracy has decided
The land down Chesterton way
Will be home to two thousand houses
And it don’t matter a jot what you say.
