THREE things about your paper attracted my attention this morning as I rifled through the pages. I admit that I am not a regular purchaser, but I always like to read Mr Light’s column and as usual he was excellent.

But, where were the Readers’ Letters? It was one way of making me read the paper at least twice in a vain attempt to find them.

Finally, the regular column from your left wing correspondent, Ms Brain, caught my eye. This week it was in praise of the late Bob Crow and Tony Benn bound up with something called integrity and fighting for what they thought was right.

No harm in that and Crow’s efforts on behalf of his members brought them huge benefits to enjoy while at the same time causing frustration to the public simply trying to go about their daily commute in the capital.

As for Mr Benn, I experienced some of his efforts in the 1970s with the shambles known as Worker’s Co-Operatives. When was he ever on the right side of an argument? Never would be the view of most people, including most of his own Labour Party.

I am sure that he mellowed in old age and it has been said that he was usually polite to everyone, but Ms Brain, if Tony Benn thought that Blair’s Labour Party did not fulfil the needs of the working man, how come it lasted in power so long?
