YOUR readers could be forgiven for being confused reading the articles concerning off-street parking in Cirencester.
Your front-page article correctly quotes Cllr Vernon Smith of Gloucestershire County Council as saying there is a consultation in process with residents about the county’s Highways proposals, but then your editorial column accuses Cotswold District Council of somehow being behind the introduction of on-street parking charges.
The reality is that any decision regarding changes in off-street parking in Cirencester is agreed between Gloucestershire County Highways and Cirencester Town Council.
What CDC can do to help alleviate the parking problems that residents of town centre streets experience is to remind them of the off-peak parking permits that are available. For £36 per annum, the equivalent of 70p per week, permit holders can park in any CDC car park from 4pm to 10am, seven days a week. More than 100 of these have already been issued for this current year.
Paperless permits can be obtained through the CDC website or a paper version for those without internet access can be obtained by post, phone or a personal visit to the council offices.
