I ATTENDED last week’s council meeting re the proposed Brewery court development, and was dismayed by the lack of discussion between the councillors regarding the objections raised by Mrs Corinne Lamus.

As objectors we were hoping a debate would take place where we would have our concerns properly addressed and our questions answered.

Instead one got the distinct impression that the councillors were simply going through the motions, and that a decision to go ahead had already been made.

Our concerns relating to the size and style of the new build, the lack of parking and related infrastructure, as well as an unnecessary student block were largely ignored.

The overall tone of the meeting implied that slightly lowering the roof line solved most of the problems. We were left unconvinced that the new build would visually be an improvement, although we appreciate the need for additional facilities in Cirencester.

There was also an impression given that negotiations with the businesses to be demolished were under way, and that consultation had taken place. For many of us this has yet to happen.

Fears and concerns of affected business people could be allayed if they were fully involved in decisions regarding their future.

As one of the businesses directly affected it would be helpful to be able to reassure my customer base that Jungle will continue to exist in Cirencester for the foreseeable future.
