COMPLAINTS about parking in Malmesbury have led to a reminder from Wiltshire Police about how to deal with people obstructing the roads.

A photo was posted on Facebook showing two cars parked either side of a junction which was too narrow to allow emergency service vehicles past.

Residents complained that the police had to do something but Sgt Martin Alvis explained that Wiltshire Council were the organisation to contact in such circumstances.

Sgt Alvis wrote: “Don't forget that Wiltshire Council control the yellow line system not the Police. We will deal with unnecessary obstruction.

“A reminder that the definition of obstruction is when a person's passage along the highway is more than momentarily obstructed. In other words if it's inconvenient to get by but you can it's not a police matter.”
