VILLAGERS in South Cerney thwarted anti-social motorists who were mounting the pavement to drive around roadworks.

The closure of Station Road earlier this month resulted in some motorists ignoring the barriers and driving over the footpaths and the grassed area in front of the houses at The Limes.

Police officers who attended at the site promised to take action against motorists caught in the act but residents decided to take matters into their own hands by parking their vehicles on their driveways to prevent vehicles driving around.

A spokesman from Gloucestershire Police said: "Officers will be focussing patrols on this area as a result of these reports to monitor the situation."
