IT IS really starting to feel like spring now. Pressure is on to get my new potatoes in the ground (the neighbour is getting ready to plant hers). I am planning to put them under fleece this year, so as not to be caught out by the inevitable frosts.
The garden is full of promise and bluetits have actually decided to use the nesting box for the first time in five years.
I fancy myself as Kate Humble hiding out in the bushes getting all hot under the collar about baby birds and mating badgers. Must make sure husband does not take on the role of Bill Oddie.
School playground is also full of promise, with pregnant woman appearing at every turn.
Perhaps it is just that they have been covered up in winter layers for so long and I have not noticed before but it seems that suddenly the whole world is having a baby.
Husband looks a bit concerned when I tell him this, as though the very act of looking at a woman with child will make me want to join in.
Tell him not to worry, we will hear the patter of tiny feet soon enough, without any of accompanying pain nor the expense of college fees.
Son turns seven tomorrow and the pet hamster we have bought him is safely hidden at the neighbour's house.
We are absolutely confident that he will be calling the creature Hammy because that is what all children call their hamsters, isn't it it?
Have decided that we will keep it downstairs as I understand that they are particularly noisy creatures at night. While sleepless nights are part of the package with a baby, I refuse to suffer them for the sake of a rodent.
