ALL waste collections for the Cotswolds have been cancelled for the remainder of the week.

While most main roads are clear of snow and ice, smaller roads and paths remain hazardous and as a result Cotswold District Council’s waste contractor Ubico Ltd has cancelled all collections due to take place this week.

Three emergency waste pick-up points have been set up at Cirencester lorry park on Old Cricklade Road, the car park on High Street, Fairford and the offices of Lechlade town council on Oak Street.

These will be open from 8am until 2pm from tomorrow until Friday and are for non-recyclable waste only.

Residents are asked to only visit these sites during these opening times and not leave bags when they are closed.

All residents whose collections were cancelled as a result of the snow will also be able to leave any waste and recycling next to their bin to be collected on their next scheduled collection date.

Recyclable waste can also be taken to recycling banks around the district.

CDC cabinet member for the environment Cllr David Fowles (Con, Hampton) said he hoped the emergency points would help residents.

“Obviously it is very frustrating when their bins are not emptied, but we have to minimise the risk to the general public, property owners and Ubico staff,” he said.

“We are aiming to get back on track with the double collections and trust that residents will understand our concerns about safety during this exceptionally icy weather.

“I must also point out that people can also use the Household Recycling Centre at Fosse Cross and our recycling banks across the district if they want to offload their waste and recycling earlier than the double collection dates.”

Household recycling centres across Gloucestershire are open seven days a week from 9am to 6.15pm.

Anyone wishing to deposit waste from vans, pick-up trucks or trailers larger than 6ft by 4ft must call ahead on 0845 602 9344.

Any queries regarding CDC collections should be directed to the waste hotline on 01285 623 123.
