DESPITE weather across Gloucestershire improving today, motorists are being warned driving conditions could still be dangerous.

Although all roads are now open, Gloucestershire County Council is warning drivers to be especially careful on higher ground or steep hills.

The Met Office has predicted very cold conditions throughout the rest of this week and GCC’s highways teams are still out gritting routes today, with a full run on key routes planned for 3am tomorrow morning.

Firefighters from Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service are also on standby with 4x4 emergency response vehicles.

Although grit bins are available for public use, residents are reminded they are only to be used on public highways and not private land or driveways.

GCC’s area highways manager John Kay said drivers should be especially careful on all roads, eve if they appear to be clear of ice and snow.

“We will continue to treat major roads across Gloucestershire and will be keeping a close eye on the weather so that we’re ready to respond if the weather worsens again,” he said.
