VOLUNTEERS have pulled out all the stops to make sure older people in Gloucestershire are safe, healthy and warm today.

WRVS supports elderly people by making meals on wheels deliveries, taking them to hospital appointments and helping them stock up on supplies.

Today volunteers have been battling through the snow to make sure all services are delivered as normal and elderly people get all the help they need.

The charity helps more than 10,000 older people every month stay independent in their own homes.

It has been running since 1938 and has an army of more than 40,000 volunteers across the country.

WRVS chief executive David McCullough praised the charities volunteers for their work today.

“Severe weather can be very unsettling for older people and it’s great to know WRVS volunteers are so dedicated,” he said. “It’s fantastic to see communities pulling together to help those who need it the most.”
