MALMESBURY and Cricklade police are warning residents to be prepared for tonight’s predicted heavy snowfall.

Up to four inches has been forecast for the Cotswolds area over the next 24 hours and it is expected to lead to travel problems, especially on country roads.

Drivers are being advised to take precautions including making sure they have blankets, shovels and fully charged mobile phones if starting out on long journeys. Householders are also urged to be good neighbours to the vulnerable and elderly.

“Just knowing that someone is on hand to help out has to be a great thing for those that are isolated and live alone,” said Sgt Martin Alvis.

“Police and our partners in emergency response will be out on patrol and are here to help but remember we can all do so much more in times like this to help ourselves.”

The Standard will be carrying updates on this website. Malmesbury and Cricklade police Facebook pages will also have information on affected local roads.
