State-of-the-art music centre open for business at Westonbirt

FIVE years of fundraising at Westonbirt School came to a harmonious end this week with the opening of the school’s new state-of-the-art music centre.

The Marriott Music Centre, opened by former chairman of governors Richard Marriott, contains three learning spaces including a technology room, a studio equipped with mixing desks and an ensemble room.

Pupils from both Westonbirt and Rose Hill Westonbirt Prep school will benefit from the new facility.

It was designed by Bath architects DKA and built by Steele Davis between April and August 2012, with funds to the tune of £300,000 raised by events organised by the Westonbirt School Foundation.

Annabella Scott, chairman of the Westonbirt School Foundation, said: “We are delighted that the Marriott Music Centre has been completed in time for the new academic year. We're sure that Westonbirt Schools' pupils will be using it to produce exciting and original music and we look forward to listening to their musical compositions.”

Year 13 pupil and head of performing arts at Westonbirt School, Cassie Greenhill, said: “I am really excited about the opening of the Marriott Music Centre. It could not have come at a better time and I cannot wait to use the excellent new recording studio equipment.”

• To celebrate the opening of this new music centre, Westonbirt School is launching a special music award. The Henderson Music Scholarship (in recognition of retiring headteacher Mary Henderson’s commitment to the school) comprises up to 50 percent off school tuition fees and free lessons for two instruments.
