ST LAWRENCE school had plenty to celebrate when the Bishop of Gloucester came to call.

The Lechlade primary school was visited by the Rt Rev Michael Perham after receiving an ‘outstanding’ award as part of the Statutory Inspection of Anglican Schools (SIAS) inspection.

In addition, the headteacher, Alison Lock, who is taking early retirement this year, has been honoured with a Long Service Award for 38 years of commitment to education.

Rt Revd Michael Perham presented the school with its outstanding certificate. He said: “The Diocese of Gloucester is very proud of the success of St Lawrence Primary School. It was also wonderful to be able to present a long service award to Alison Lock for her dedication to education over the years. The school will miss her.”

Mrs Lock said: “As we are a church school, we had a second inspection following our Ofsted inspection. The SIAS inspection looks more at the whole child and the impact of the working of the wider school community, rather than data and academic progress.”

She continued: “Everyone associated with the school should be congratulated and should celebrate the superb teamwork across the school and be proud of the ‘outstanding’ school that is theirs.”
